Toddler Group Care Educators (18 months-3years) are qualified and certified Early Childhood Educators with Infant-Toddler, First Aid and a Criminal Record Check.
3 to 5 Year Group Care Educators are qualified and certified Early Childhood Educators with First Aid and a Criminal Record Check.
The Toddler and 3-5 Programs are licensed by the Ministry of Health Community Care Licensing and meet staff to child ratios:
- Toddler Group Care: 1 educator to 4 children
- 3 to 5 Year Group Care: 1 educator to 8 children
We follow a play-based learning approach that is guided by B.C.’s Early Learning Framework, supporting social, emotional, physical and cognitive development through exploration and play.
Our program offers a balanced day that includes:
- Rest/Quiet Time
- Free play and guided learning activities
- Circle time (songs, stories and movement)
- Outdoor play (twice per day)
- Two snacks and a hot lunch
Pooh Corner Daycare is an inclusive environment and welcomes children with special needs. We however do not have an environment that supports wheelchair accessibility as we are a multi level heritage house with no elevator.
We work with parents and the child’s other service providers to assess the child’s strengths, interests & needs and to identify the supports needed to successfully include the child in our program.
Our programs go outside twice daily for a minimum of 60 minutes in all kinds of weather.
The only time we do not go outside is if there is a big windstorm. Our number one priority is the children’s safety and if we feel that the wind is too strong or the Vancouver Park’s Board has closed Stanley Park due to the possibility of fallen tree branches, we will keep the children inside.
Yes! Healthy snacks are provided in the morning and afternoon for all programs. We also provide a vegetarian hot lunch program that has an additional fee.
Our waitlist is not based on “first come, first served” basis.
To support children in the Toddler Program to move to the 3 to 5 Program, we have to maintain a balance of children’s ages. This may impact the priority in which spaces are offered.
If your child does not meet this age requirement, they will stay on the waitlist for future spaces.
Waitlist priority is given to siblings that are currently enrolled at the centre.
Once you have submitted the waitlist application form, an email confirmation will not be provided.
Please fill out the waitlist form and email the PDF to waitlist@poohcornerdaycare.com. You will not receive an email verification.
We do not do tours of the Centre unless we have a space available for your child. At that time, we will call you for a tour and answer any questions you may have about our Centre.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Lagoon-A-Thon
Each year, the families and staff of Pooh Corner participate in the Lagoon-a-Thon. The children walk, bike, stroll and otherwise make their way around Lost Lagoon. This adventure provides an opportunity for the parents, children and staff to both socialize and explore the natural Stanley Park environment.
